Tradeweb Markets is one of the largest market-makers in the world. They operate electronic over-the-counter marketplaces for trading fixed income products and derivatives. In 2009, they launched Dealerweb, a separate division for the interdealer marketplace.
For the past few years, Tradeweb has consistently published a holiday game, and it has become their annual tradition. Last year, we had the opportunity to partner with them to develop their holiday game. And we are again thrilled to have helped build this year’s holiday HTML5 game for Tradeweb.
The game is an endless runner called Jingle Ball, and it beautifully features the Tradeweb brand and logo. A second version of the game has the Dealerweb branding instead. Players will love its jolly holiday theme and delight in its engaging gameplay.
Inspired by the hit game Flappy Bird, Jingle Ball is a side-scroller in which the player aims to keep a snowball going for as long as possible.
Controls are simple—just press the left mouse/up arrow button (desktop) or tap the screen (mobile) to prevent the snowball from falling down or hitting barriers. There are tons of challenging obstacles that the player has to avoid such as moving hoops and falling icicles.
Adding to the challenge is the fact that the player has to shoot the snowball into various hoops. Shooting the ball into a hoop gives 1 point, and doing the same, but without touching any part of the hoop (called a “clean dip”), gives 2 points.
A streak of clean dips gives higher and higher points. Player loses the streak when the ball touches a hoop. Successfully passing through a narrow passage between icicles also adds 2 points to the score.
Player has 3 lives at the start of each run, and loses a life with each hoop missed or barrier hit. Game is over when player uses up all lives. Falling down to the ground will instantly end the game.
Here’s a demo of the gameplay:
HTML5 technology is arguably the best framework that companies can use to market and promote their brands through games. Producing HTML5 games has significant advantages over other alternatives in terms of cost-effectivity and platform cross-compatibility.
With HTML5 games, it is easier for brands to widen their consumer reach and connect with loyal customers in a positive way. Users do not have to download plugins or apps just to play them, unlike Flash games or native games. They only need to load a URL in a browser to play the game smoothly in any device.
Listen to our podcast, where we discuss game reskin projects in a down to earth manner. We break it down into simple concepts that anyone can grasp.
We feel fortunate to have developed holiday games for Tradeweb for two straight years. Building a tradition is evidently effective in getting loyal customers, and the 8th year run of Tradeweb’s traditional year-end activity is a testament to this.
Traditions in a company give their long-time customers a sense of stability which makes them more likely to stay loyal in the long run. HTML5 games are proving to be valuable tools in helping companies and brands observe their traditions with the use of new technology. It is not surprising then that big companies like Tradeweb are embracing HTML5 game development technology as part of their corporate strategy.
