We helped a health supplement startup develop an endless runner for their gamification marketing campaign.

This promotional HTML5 game rewarded players with coupon codes based on end scores.

Objectives

We had three main objectives.

  • Develop a light-weight game with multiple rewards
  • Rebrand the game to match the brand’s identity including audio
  • Add an end card to redirect players to the checkout process

Customer Journey

A brief outline of how the customer journey was implemented.

Step 1: The customer logs in to the online store

Step 2: Adds items at the checkout counter

Step 3: A message appears that redirects the customer to the game

Step 4: Customer plays the game, typically less than 1 minute

Step 5: At the end of the game, a discount coupon code pops up, based on player performance

4-Tier Rewards System

Aside from the HTML5 game, we developed a 4-tier rewards system.

At the end of each game, the score was sent to our server to calculate the rewards. Once the reward was determined, a promo code button appeared at the end card. The player must click the button to claim the code.

Tier 1: 40+ points for 39% discount

Tier 2: 30-39 points for 35%

Tier 3: 10-29 points for 31%

Tier 4: 0-9 points for no discount

Tier 4 was the lowest possible rank a player could get, equivalent to a 0% discount. The player may choose to replay the game to improve their rank. Tier 1 granted a 39% discount regardless if the player got higher than 40 points.

Each player was only allowed one discount code for the entire event.
